This new volume is a rich and comprehensive resource of the basic information and latest developments and research efforts on tropical and subtropical fruits. It presents an extensive overview of crop production techniques, processing, marketing, breeding efforts, harvesting, and postharvest handling, as well as pest and disease management of banana, citrus, durian, grapes, guava, jackfruit, litchi, mango, and papaya. He was previously Assistant Professor at Sikkim University, India, and has published many research papers and book chapters in reputed journals and books. He has also published several books. In addition, he is working as a member in the Workgroup Lychee, Longan and other Sapindaceae Fruits of the International Society for Horticultural Science, Belgium, as well as with other ISHS sections on tropical-subtropical fruits and the organic horticulture and the commission on quality and postharvest horticulture. Currently he is also working as Editor-in-Lead (Horticulture) for the International Journal of Bio Resources & Stress Management (IJBSM). Dr. Mandal is an editorial advisor in Horticulture Science to Cambridge Scholars Publishing, UK, and a regular reviewer for journals such as Fruits, HortScience, Acta Physiologica Plantarum, and the African Journal of Agricultural Research. Further, he is a consultant horticulturist to the Department of Horticulture & Agriculture (Research & Extension), Government of Mizoram, India, and Himadri Specialty Chemicals Ltd. He is also handling externally funded research projects. He acted as convener or co-convener for several conferences and symposia as well. Ursula Wermund, PhD Project Manager and R&D Coordinator Greenyard Fresh - Greenyard Fresh Trade International (UNIVEG) GmbH Ursula Wermund, PhD, is Project Manager for quality and sustainability at Greenyard Fresh Services GmbH in Germany. She has marked experience in professional-corporate management in the field of postharvest handling and the marketing of fresh fruit and vegetables. Her corporate experience includes acting as Head of quality management at the Peter Vetter Group GmbH, Kehl, Germany. She was previously affiliated with Imperial College, Wye, UK as Head of the Post Harvest Group where she also conducted her post doc on the UK cherry and plum supply chain. During the past 15 years she has worked on quality assurance, R&D and sustainability for several supply chains including Madagascan and South African litchis, Surinamese bananas, Kenian French beans, Malian mangos, Costa Rican pineapples and Turkish and Italian table grapes. She is actively associated in projects and working groups with the GIZ, GLOBALG.A.P. TC GRASP, and the German Fruit Trading Association and Freshfel Europe. She has published over a dozen research papers in reputed international journals and has participated at international meetings, conferences, and symposia. Lop Phavaphutanon, PhD Deputy Head and Chief of the Tropical Fruit Research and Development Center, Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Kamphaeng Sean, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Sean Campus, Thailand Lop Phavaphutanon, PhD, is currently Deputy Head and Chief of the Tropical Fruit Research and Development Center, Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Sean, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Sean Campus, Thailand. He has 30 years of teaching experience at Kasetsart University, Thailand. He has published more than 30 research papers, two book chapters, and 24 seminar papers during his active research career. Currently he is handling three research projects related to aromatic coconut and pummelo fruit. He teaches courses on principles of horticulture, physiology of horticultural crops, tropical fruits, orchard management, nutrition of horticultural crops, and research methods in horticultural sciences. Regina Cronje, MSc Horticulturist, Agricultural Research Council, Institute for Tropical and Subtropical Crops, Nelspruit, South Africa Regina Cronje is a Horticulturist with the Agricultural Research Council of the Institute for Tropical and Subtropical Crops, Nelspruit, South Africa. She is actively associated with research of crop production technology of subtropical fruits and is currently focused on litchi and mandarin. She is serving on the Board of Directors of the South African Litchi Growers’ Association and is an active member of the South African Society for Horticultural Science and the International Society for Horticultural Science. In addition, she is reviewer of reputed journals, including HortScience and the Agricultural Science Journal. She has published 41 research papers and 15 book chapters and was chief editor for book volume published as Acta Horticulture (Proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Lychee, Longan and Other Spaindaceae Fruits). |
