Biotechnology is a vast area of research—from the basic to the applied level—that includes study of numerous branches, such as molecular biology, recombinant DNA technology, microbial biotechnology, agricultural biotechnology, immunotechnology, environmental biotechnology, bioinformatics, proteomics, and genomics. Biotechnology basically aims to improve the quality of products for the sake of human well-being, whereas bioinformatics deals with the advanced application of biotechnology with the use of computational tools for detailed in silico analysis of biological queries at physiological, biochemical, molecular, and genomic levels.

The main target of biotechnology is to exploit the genetic material of microorganisms and multicellular organisms to obtain the desired product for the betterment of human life. The concept of biotechnology evolved with the study of microorganisms and their application in many areas, such as fermentation, medicine, agriculture, industry, and environment. Later on, many experiments were done that led to the invention of transgenic plants, microorganisms, and animals. Wherein bioinformatics helps to study the biological data, bioinformatics analysis explains the information from a single nucleotide or amino acid up to the whole genome or proteome level. The recent scenario shows the vigorous growth in this scientific field, and at present both biotechnology and bioinformatics aim toward the development of more effective treatment and preventive measures for diseases by genome sequencing technology.
