Short description about the volume:
The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) statistics revealed that the international tourist arrivals reached 1.4 billion during the year 2018, which happened two years ahead of the projected forecasts. The millennials and Gen Y are the key driving forces behind it, and their aspirations are constantly evolving with the passage of time. Millennials are very distinct from other older generations because they have different aspirations and expectations for the tourism industry. They demand unforgettable memories, experiences, and activities over substantial/material goods. This has led to the evolution of what many researchers call the experience economy. The young customers, also known as Millennials, are predicted to be the travelers of the upcoming age. But, as the number of millennial travelers is increasing, the travel industry also needs to adapt and change to meet their travel needs and demands. Millennial travelers are seeking local experiences in terms of cultural, natural, artistic, spiritual, culinary experiences, etc. They want to experience how locals spend their time engaged in their daily activities. For Millennials, traveling is no more a trip planned in advance to relax and enjoy. It is like adventures that can happen anytime, at any moment, usually on weekends or a span of few days. They repeatedly take trips many times in a year as they have several reasons behind taking these trips. Millennials see their family, friends, colleagues and favorite influencers post pictures and videos of places they are visiting

The purpose of this book is to bring together high-quality chapters that focus on new knowledge and understanding on the prevalent ongoing debate on the role and importance of Millennials in tourism and their power to influence and reshape the future of the tourism industry. To contribute in this respect, this edited book aims to offer an all-embracing collection of papers regarding the trends, concerns, challenges, and debates on “millennials and tourism” in the global tourism industry. Research papers with new viewpoints and approaches for traditional models and theories, as well as new qualitative, quantitative and mix methodologies are welcome.

As an edited book, it will add on new research, facts, and information with high-quality contributions from academicians, practitioners, and researchers around the globe. This book will help to understand and analyze the ongoing debates on Millennials and their importance in the tourism industry across the globe and also will act as a pathway for the tourism industry to revive in future.

The intended audience for the book is the researchers, practitioners, academicians, and scholars who are intrigued by the widespread rising relevance of Millennials in the tourism industry, especially during the current pandemic situation. The book aims to provide a dialogue for an academic discussion in order to stir the conversations on relevant and popular topics of debate in this perspective. The book will benefit graduates, postgraduates, research scholars, social workers, and those who are involved in the tourism industry.

Coverage:

The present book shall fulfill the research gap by commissioning the contributions with both practical and academic approaches. The underlying idea is to publish an edited volume of a global standard, with contributors from all across the world. The book will be divided into five subsections namely:
