CALL FOR BOOK CHAPTERS

This proposed book, Regulatory Framework for Postharvest Horticultural Fresh Produce and Trade Practices, focuses on the regulatory framework for horticultural fresh produce, food safety, environmental requirements, and trade practices for horticultural exports in key markets. Producing and exporting fresh fruits and vegetables from developing countries provides numerous opportunities for economic and social development. The volume of global fresh fruit and vegetable trade has grown faster than any other major agricultural product category, and many developing countries are attempting to increase their market share. However, due to the perishability of the produce as well as the capital- and skill- intensive nature of production, this is far from simple. Furthermore, new requirements for accessing large retailers’ global supply chains frequently necessitate a shift to high- precision manufacturing methods. The book also discusses the relationship between regulatory and voluntary requirements in key horticultural markets, as well as the "transnationalization" of voluntary standards. It investigates the role of private-sector standards in implementing regulatory requirements in export markets, as well as the use of public funds in meeting private supply-chain safety and quality requirements. We are sure that this book on this topic will continue to be an important driver of world agriculture-food and consequently trade in the years to come.

The purpose of bringing out this book is to bridge the knowledge gap between regulatory framework and fresh horticultural produce production and trade. This book is an update on the regulatory framework for horticultural fresh produce, food safety, environmental requirements, and trade practices for horticultural exports in key markets. Producing and exporting fresh fruits and vegetables from developing countries provides numerous opportunities for economic and social development. We hope that beginners, industrialists as well as professional researchers, in various disciplines of science and those dealing with fungi would be highly benefitted by availing comprehensive knowledge from this book.
