Advances in medical technology have brought the use of photosensitizing materials and light for treating diverse ailments to a new level, with reduced adverse effects and enhanced therapeutic outcomes. This new book, Photodynamic Therapy for the Management of Disease: Advances and Perspectives, offers an insightful collection of different aspects of photodynamic therapy (PDT), providing valuable insights into the latest innovations, methodologies, and future prospects of this field.

The book focuses on diffusion optical imaging and explores its application for treating patients through various modes. The initial chapters provide a comprehensive explanation of how light interacts with live tissue, as well as an overview of numerous imaging techniques and diffusion optical imaging methods. It delves into the advancements of multimodal optical imaging, thus establishing a solid foundation for further exploration of PDT’s applications in a wide range of disorders.

The book also explores advances in liposomal nanotechnologies and their significant contributions to photodynamic therapy. It provides a comprehensive analysis of imaging methods, including photoacoustic imaging, optical coherence tomography, and diffuse optical imaging of cancer, offering valuable insights into the diagnostic potential of biophotonics.

The book further delves into the function of cytochrome c oxidase and its impact on cultured neurons, nano porphyrins and supramolecular drug delivery systems in photomedicine, and the newly developed field of photobiomodulation therapy for the brain, with a specific focus on its potential impact on neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Furthermore, it highlights the significant contribution of nanotechnology in cancer medication delivery systems and photothermal therapy for improving therapeutic outcomes.

This book will be a valuable resource for academics, medical practitioners, and researchers who are interested in exploring the potential of PDT. It will both enhance the understanding of PDT as well as serve as a catalyst for further exploration and innovation.
