Metals have been used for health and healing for thousands of years. Today, the use of metal complexes as medicinal substances is becoming more and more significant as inorganic chemistry evolves. This book, Metals in Medicine, set in two volumes, provides detailed information on and applications of metal-containing compounds that function as essential tools in medical science for the imaging and diagnosis of disease as well as for the prevention and treatment of many diseases.

Volume 1: Metals for Tissue Engineering and Pharmaceutical Applications introduces metallodrugs and their applications in the biomedical field, including for tissue engineering, drug delivery, bioimaging, biosensing, and bone tissue engineering. Volume 2: Metallic Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications illustrates the possible applications of different types of metal-based drugs in the pharmaceutical and biomedical fields.

In Volume 1, a curated collection of the latest medicinal and inorganic chemical research featuring metals for medicinal applications is presented. The book covers the use of metallic foams, metallic nanocarriers, metal organic frameworks of bioimaging and biosensing application, metallic scaffolds for tissue engineering, and much more. The volume presents the valuable therapeutic and diagnostic properties of metallic drugs, connecting the fields of inorganic chemistry and medicine.

Volume 2 deals with the application of particular metal-active drugs for disease treatment and diagnosis. It presents the compounds/complexes that have been found to be promising for potential therapeutic use along with their properties and the diseases against which they could be effective. It explores the application of gold and silver nanoparticles for tissue engineering as well as their role in cancer therapy. In addition, it employs real-life applications of metallic drugs that include gold- and zinc-based nanosystems in cancer therapy, zinc oxide in disease diagnosis, gold/silver nanoparticles for tissue engineering and biomedical applications, palladium in photothermal therapy for cancer, etc. This volume gives a comprehensive and thorough analysis of the use of metal complexes in medicine.

This two-volume resource will serve as a reference for professionals, faculty and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the fields of materials science, biomedical engineering, and metallo-engineering. It is a valuable resource for academic and industrial scientists working in inorganic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and drug discovery.
