In this era of rapidly advancing technology and global challenges, it has become crucial to adopt an integrated approach that bridges the gap between scientific principles and their practical applications. The chapters compiled in this book reflect this need for synergy and presents an eclectic selection of studies that address sustainable composite materials technology, emerging materials for sustainable energy, and environment, health, and sustainable development.

The first section of the book, focusing on Sustainable Composite Materials Technology, explores innovative methods and advancements in composite materials, addressing their role
in sustainable development. From surface modifications of nanosheets to the mechanical properties of recycled blends, this section delves into cutting-edge research on composite materials and their applications.

Part 2 goes on to highlight emerging materials for sustainable energy by focusing on the development of materials that contribute to sustainable energy solutions. Chapters on single-photon generation, battery-type electrodes, and thin film photovoltaic devices provide valuable insights into the potential of materials science in advancing sustainable energy technologies.

The section on environment, health, and sustainable development examines the crucial interconnections between the environment, human health, and sustainable development. Chapters exploring indoor air quality, pharmacological investigations, and intelligible models for healthcare underscore the importance of holistic approaches in achieving sustainable development goals.

A selection of case studies presents real-world examples and in-depth analyses of various sustainable development initiatives. From geostatistical analysis for coal gasification to the impact of climate change on livestock production, the case studies in this volume shed light on the challenges and opportunities involved in implementing sustainable practices.

This book is the result of selected papers from the Physical and Integrated Sciences Conference (PISCON) 2022, organized by the Department of Applied Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The editors hope this book will serve as a catalyst for further advancements in engineering design and technical applications of physical science for sustainable development. By embracing an integrated approach and leveraging the power of science and technology, we can collectively strive towards a more sustainable and prosperous future.
