Reviews
“A reference manual for students and researchers in bioengineering . . . Combines fundamental and applied research topics of fluid dynamics and heat transfer in biological systems, providing an understanding of transport processes and biofluid mechanics strategies for disease diagnosis and therapy. This book also includes a chapter on the working principles of commonly used medical devices, which makes it a complete guide for engineering students . . . I believe this book will enhance a proper understanding of biofluid and bioheat transport in various organ systems in our body and provide a fundamental base for students and researchers to develop new methods and technologies to tackle diseases.”
—From Foreword by Ramjee Repaka, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering; Associate faculty, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, Punjab, India

Biofluid mechanics is a branch of science that deals with fluid mechanics in living organisms. Progress in biofluid mechanics has led to extraordinary advancements in biology, including the development of the artificial hearts, heart valves, stents, and more. This new and expanded edition of Biofluid Dynamics of Human Body Systems is a comprehensive guide on the physical and chemical properties of fluids in the human body.

The book introduces the biofluid dynamics of human body systems, covering the circulatory, respiratory, brain, urinary, digestive, and maternal fetal systems. Offering a complete presentation of the physics and applications of bioheat and biofluid transport in the human body and organ systems, this new volume also illustrates the necessary methodology and physics associated with the mathematical modeling of heat and mass exchange in our body. It discusses applications of dimensional analysis in bioengineering as well as bioheat and biomass transfer in the human body. It also describes the kinetics of drug delivery in the human body along with instrumentation and measurements of human bodily fluids.

The chapters are individually structured with each being a complete unit, with conclusions, summaries, keywords, and bibliographies.

This second edition has been expanded and revised with many new and important theories and physical views, drug development and delivery procedures, and mathematical models that have been developed since the publication of the first edition. It is a unique and comprehensive guide on the physics of biofluids and bioheat transport processes of human body systems and will prove of great value to faculty and students, researchers, and biologists.
