Perspectives and Anthropology in Tourism and Hospitality (PATH)
Little has been updated in the field of anthropology and tourism since the first works of Eric Cohen, Valene Smith, or Nelson Graburn. With a special focus on social and cultural aspects of tourism and travel, this new book brings out the latest in anthropology of tourism by laying the foundations of a new understanding of the intersection between tourism and social science. The volume offers an eclectic selection of topics on the study of tourism in our contemporary and ever-changing world. CONTENTS: About the Authors / Editors: Editors: Maximiliano E. Korstanje, PhD Senior Researcher, Department of Economics, University of Palermo, Argentina Maximiliano E. Korstanje, PhD, is Senior Researcher in the Department of Economics at the University of Palermo, Argentina. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Safety and Security in Tourism and Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of the International Journal of Cyber Warfare and Terrorism. In addition to this, he is a global affiliate of the Tourism Crisis Management Institute (University of Florida, USA), the Centre for Ethnicity and Racism Studies (University of Leeds, UK), The Forge (University of Lancaster and University of Leeds, UK), and The International Society for Philosophers. A prolific author, Dr. Korstanje has published more than 1200 published papers and 35 books. His recent works include Strategic Tools and Methods for Promoting Hospitality and Tourism Services; Virtual Traumascapes and Exploring the Roots of Dark Tourism; Research, Practices, and Innovations in Global Risk and Contingency Management; The Rise of Thana-Capitalism and Tourism; Terrorism, Tourism and the End of Hospitality in the ‘West’; among others. He currently co-edits almost 10 specialized journals and takes part in almost 30 journals associated with such themes as human rights, mobility, tourism, and terrorism. Dr. Korstange was nominated for five honorary doctorates for his contributions in the study of the effects of terrorism on tourism. In 2015, he was named as Visiting Research Fellow at the School of Sociology and Social Policy, University of Leeds, UK, and the University of La Habanam Cuba. In 2017, he was elected as a foreign faculty member of the Mexican Academy in the Study of Tourism (AMIT), which is one of the most prominent institutions dedicated to tourism research in Mexico. He has vast experience in editorial projects working as advisory member for Elsevier, Routledge, Springer, IGI Global, and Cambridge Scholar Publishing. Dr. Korstange has visited and given seminars at many important universities worldwide. Vanessa GB Gowreesunkar, PhD Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur, India Vanessa (Gaitree) Gowreesunkar, PhD, is currently affiliated with the Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur, India. She was formerly Senior Lecturer and the Head of the Tourism and Hospitality Management Department at the University of Africa, Toru Orua, Nigeria. She has been teaching at various local and international institutions, such as the University of Mauritius; the University of Technology, Mauritius; Open University of Mauritius; and the Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism, India. She teaches in the fields of tourism, management, marketing, communications, German, and other related areas. Dr. Gowreesunkar has published and presented a number of papers in international and local platforms and is interested in island tourism research. She is a national representative for the Organisation of Tourism and Hospitality Management (OTHM), United Kingdom, and is the Chairperson and Vice President for the Scientific and Academic Research Committee (SARC) at the Allied Network for Policy Research and Actions for Sustainability. |
