Traditionally, human resource management has largely focused on maximizing organizational performance and efficiency, often emphasizing short-term gains in productivity and employee output. However, as businesses and scholars alike have become increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability, there has been a shift toward HRM approaches that not only enhance organizational outcomes but also foster the well-being of employees, promote social responsibility, and minimize environmental impacts. This new volume, Sustainable Human Resource Management: Psychological Perspectives, shares a broader recognition of the need to rethink traditional HRM practices in the context of sustainability, reflecting the growing concerns about the long-term well-being of employees, the environment, and society, and how organizations can better align their HR strategies with these goals.

Chapters in the book explore the compatibility of human resource management values and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, electronic human resource management tools (the use of technology, especially web-based applications, to deliver and support services such as recruitment, training, and performance management), employing generative AI for sustainable human resource management, integrating workplace spirituality with green HRM practices and environmental sustainability, management approaches to workplace stress and mental health issues, and much more.

With state-of-art thinking and research contributions from global experts in sustainable practices in HRM, the book will provide HR professionals with valuable tools to promote long-term organizational success by understanding psychological resilience, motivation, and a fair, responsible work environment in organizations. It will be valuable in understanding and applying the psychological basis in sustainable HRM.
