Tuberculosis (TB) is a major global health threat even today, claiming the lives of millions each year, despite the availability of effective treatments for the disease. The emergence of drug resistance and limitations of existing therapies demand the continuous development of new and improved drugs. This new book, Recent Advancements in Tuberculosis Drug Discovery, provides a comprehensive overview of the latest progress in this field, covering a wide range of topics, from untangling the complexities of drug resistance to using the incredible potential of artificial intelligence to enhance treatment methods.

The book first explores the historical context of TB drug discovery and highlights the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. It also explains the relationship between COVID-19 and tuberculosis using clinical studies. Other chapters explore TB diagnosis methods, drug resistance mechanisms in TB, and current limitations in existing drugs and proposes strategies such as structural modifications, efflux pathway targeting, and host-directed therapies to overcome resistance. It also discusses structure-based drug design (SBDD) as a cutting-edge technique in tuberculosis (TB) drug discovery and for tackling drug resistance.

State-of-the-art approaches, such as host-directed therapies, artificial intelligence for TB management, and novel drug delivery systems in TB treatment are also explored in depth. Recent advancements in tuberculosis control, vaccine development, and biomarkers are also covered along with visions for the future of TB drug discovery, offering a glimpse into the evolving landscape of combating tuberculosis.

This important volume provides a comprehensive overview and valuable insights related to TB from historical to modern times. The book will prove valuable to researchers, scientists in drug discovery and development as well as clinicians and policymakers involved in TB research.
