Polymers, with their diverse properties and versatile nature, have revolutionized various fields, including the field of medicine. Today, polymers are used in the development of novel therapies, in drug delivery systems, for diagnostic tools, and even in medical devices. This new volume, Polymer Applications in Medicine: Revolutionizing Treatment and Therapeutics, explores the profound impact polymers have made in the medical field and delves into the multidisciplinary aspects of their utilization.

This book covers a wide range of topics, each shedding light on different areas where polymers have made significant contributions. Chapters on polymers in inflammatory disease therapy discuss tailored formulations of polymers and their ability to address the complex nature of inflamed tissues. The book looks at the utilization of 3D printed polymers in medicine showcases the potential of this emerging technology in manufacturing patient-specific medical devices, for tissue engineering scaffolds, and for drug delivery systems. Also discussed are biodegradable polymers used in drug delivery that take advantage of the compatibility and degradable nature of these materials, along with their clinical applicability. Supramolecular polymers and their applications in drug delivery and tissue engineering that offer new possibilities for controlled release systems and complex tissue regeneration are explored also. The chapters on polymers and their nanocomposites in cancer therapy emphasize the challenges in drug delivery and the potential of polymer-based systems to overcome these obstacles.

The book reports on polymer-based nanocomposites in clinical diagnosis and provides insight into the fabrication and application of polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic purposes. Also investigated is the use of polymers in tissue engineering, which elucidates the role of these materials in creating functional biological structures for various medical applications. Finally, the chapter on polymer chemistry in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrates how polymers and additive manufacturing technologies have played a crucial role in addressing the shortage of medical supplies during this global crisis.

Written by experts who are pioneers in their respective fields and presenting a wealth of knowledge and cutting-edge research, this book will serve as a valuable resource for researchers, students, and professionals seeking a deeper understanding of the diverse and significant role of polymers in medicine.
