Marine biota includes marine microbes, plants, and animals that constitute about 50% of the total world biodiversity. Marine biota have the potential of being a rich source of bioactive compounds that can be beneficial in the prevention of cancer, heart disease, and other diseases. However, the use and applications of marine biota is largely unexplored, especially in the development of new drugs. This book, Medicinal Marine Microbiota, presents a comprehensive take on the topic of medically important marine microbiota, exploring medicinal compounds of marine microalgae, bacteria, and fungi associated with marine plants and animals.

This book is a first of its kind in that it combines the fields of marine biopharmacy, marine microbiology, and marine biology. The chapters cover each type of medicinal microbiota in depth. The book begins with an introduction to marine microbiota, followed by details on the toxins of marine microalgae and their potential therapeutic applications. It then covers medicinal marine microalgae and their compounds and bioactivities. The book also looks at medicinal bacteria and medicinal fungi associated with marine plants and animals.

Replete with valuable information on the medicinal use of marine microbiota, this volume will be a standard reference and guide for researchers and students of multiple disciplines, including marine biopharmacy, marine biology, marine microbiology, marine biochemistry, and marine biotechnology.
