The volume, Glycome: The Sweet Enigma, provides a comprehensive understanding of the enigmatic identity of the glycome, a complex but important area of research. The volume thoroughly deals with almost all aspects of the glycome, i.e., elucidation of the glycan identity enigma and its role in regulation of the cellular process and in disease etiology. It bridges the knowledge gap in understanding the glycome, from being a cell signature to its applications in disease etiology. In addition, it details many of the major insights regarding the possible role of glycome in various diseases as a therapeutic marker has also been highlighted. CONTENTS: About the Authors / Editors: Tanveer A. Dar, PhD Assistant Professor of Clinical Biochemistry, University of Kashmir Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India Tanveer A. Dar, PhD, is currently Assistant Professor of Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Kashmir Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India. He has published more than 25 research papers in high-impact international journals. Dr. Dar has been actively involved in teaching and research from last eight years and has been awarded with a Junior Research Fellowship and a Senior Research Fellowship by the Council of Scientific and Industrial research (CSIR), New Delhi, India. He was selected as an Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Visiting Fellow for the year 2014-2015. Dr. Dar is actively involved in various projects with funding from various reputed national funding agencies, such as the Department of Biotechnology, the Department of Science and Technology and CSIR, Govt. of India, New Delhi. His current research focuses on modulation of protein fibrillation/aggregation by chemical chaperones, such as trehalose, mannose, TMAO, sucrose, sorbitol, etc., and characterization of therapeutically important glycoproteins from medicinal plants. He has recently published an edited volume book, Proteiostasis and Chaperone Surveillance, published by Springer, India Ltd. Dr. Dar received his Master’s in biochemistry from Hamdard University, New Delhi, India, and his PhD in protein biophysics from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Dr. Dar continued his postdoctoral research at the University of Montana, USA. Adeel Malik, PhD Assistant Professor, Perdana University Centre for Bioinformatics (PU-CBi), Selangor, Malaysia Adeel Malik, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Perdana University Center for Bioinformatics (PU-CBi), Malaysia. He obtained his PhD (2009) from the Dept. of Biosciences, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi, India. During his PhD, he developed computational methods for the prediction of carbohydrate binding sites in proteins using sequence and evolutionary information (Malik and Ahmad, BMC Struct Biol, 2007). This was the first sequence-based method to predict carbohydrate-binding sites in proteins, which was well received by the scientific community. Realizing that it is not easy to retrieve protein-carbohydrate complexes from PDB, he continued this work as a scientist at the Biomedical Informatics Center, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India, where he developed an elaborate database of protein-carbohydrate complexes, integrating sequence-based prediction tools in it (www.procarb.org). He obtained his postdoctoral fellowship from the School of Computational Sciences, Korea Institute for Advanced Study (KIAS), Seoul, South Korea. As a part of his research, he explored lectin-carbohydrate interactions via community-based network analysis by using glycan array data. Later he worked as an Assistant Professor at School of Biotechnology, Yeungnam University, South Korea. His other research interests include the study of chronic kidney diseases, skeletal muscle development, and understanding the role of glycogenes in various biological processes by using different bioinformatics methods. He has published about 19 research articles in high-impact journals including 3 book chapters. |

AAP support has been truly important throughout the initial and final stages of the book. While the majority of the publishing work is done at the early stages, the final touches that include the last-minute corrections of the authors are extremely crucial to the quality the book tries to convey. The assistance of AAP during the last stages of corrections and communication with the authors was a very positive contributor to my state of mind during those stressful moments. I recommend the publishing experience with AAP to other editors of scientific material.” —Stavros Hatzopoulos, PhD, Hearing Science Laboratory, University Hospital of Ferrara, Ferrara, Italy AAP book title: Nanotechnologies: The Physics of Nanomaterials (2-volume set) “I was very pleased with the interaction and support of the team at Apple Academic Press. They provided me with regular and useful information and updates throughout the publishing procedure. I am also very happy with the final product, which is of good quality. The books are now available and are professionally distributed through the various channels. I would like again to thank the team at AAP for all their hard work and support.” —David Schmool, PhD, Director, Groupe d’Etude de la Matière Condensée GEMaC, National Centre for Scientific Research, Université de Versailles/Saint-Quentin, Université Paris-Saclay,Versailles, France AAP book title: Physiology of Molluscs (2-volume set) “I have enjoyed the full benefit of support, encouragement, and kindness from the members of AAP I have had the pleasure of being associated with.
