BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE VOLUME

This edited volume will provide a comprehensive synthesis of current advancements in forest genetics, tree breeding, and forest biotechnology, with an emphasis on empirical approaches, molecular tools, and translational research. It will cover the foundational principles of forest genetic structure, quantitative trait inheritance, and breeding systems, while integrating cutting-edge methodologies such as molecular markers, QTL mapping, transcriptomics, CRISPR-based genome editing, and AI-assisted breeding platforms.

The book will bridge classical tree improvement techniques such as progeny testing, hybridization, and clonal selection with modern molecular strategies including marker-assisted and genomic selection. It will explore the role of genetic interventions in enhancing forest productivity, resilience to biotic and abiotic stresses, and adaptability under climate change scenarios.

Special focus will be placed on the development and deployment of genetically improved material through biotechnological tools like tissue culture, transgenics, and cryopreservation, alongside policy, ethical, and biosafety considerations. Real-world case studies and global breeding programs will be presented to contextualize theoretical advances within practical forestry applications.

This volume will be intended to serve as a critical reference for forest geneticists, molecular biologists, tree breeders, biotechnologists, and students engaged in applied forestry research and sustainable forest management. It will consolidate both classical and next-generation approaches essential for accelerating genetic gains and ensuring the ecological and economic sustainability of forest ecosystems.
