Reviews
“A thorough, multidisciplinary examination of how genetic editing is revolutionizing medicine and providing fresh hope in the battle against complicated illnesses. . . . An extensive range of chapters on the ethical, legal, and societal consequences of gene editing, with a focus on human rights concerns and the legal frameworks that must adapt to incorporate the impact of gene editing. . . . An essential resource for healthcare experts, researchers, clinicians, and biomedical scientists in the future of healthcare and genetic technology.”
—From the Foreword by Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, CEO, Galgotias University, Greater Noida, India

This new book, Genetic Editing for Healthcare: Advances in Disease Management, explores the rising trends in biomedical research on the integration of the pioneering technology of genome editing and its potential benefits in medicine and the healthcare industry, leading to a paradigm shift in the prevention of treatment of several diseases and disorders and overall improvement of human health. The volume explores the advent of cutting-edge technologies, such as CRISPR-Cas-9, a sophisticated and precise method of genetic manipulation, revolutionizing the field of medical research.

The volume first lays the groundwork for understanding the molecular foundations and major scientific backbones behind these new genetic technologies with special interest in CRISPR-Cas9, TALENs (transcription activator-like effector nucleases), and ZFNs (zinc-finger nucleases), which are now among the principal stars. The book enlightens on their mechanisms of action at the molecular level and how effectively they can help machinery to overcome genetic failures.

The volume proceeds to address the practical uses of genome editing in healthcare, providing examples of state-of-the-art gene-modifying tools to tackle life-threatening genetic diseases, with case studies on the deployment in cancer treatment settings and how patients are now benefitting. The problems and complexity of gene-editing therapies are also considered, along with the need for appropriate regulatory frameworks and ethical standards that must be met before genetic editing is used.

Chapters in the book cover regulating CRISPR technology in genetic engineering, applications and challenges of CRISPR/Cas9 in genetic editing, the impact of genomics on drug discovery and clinical medicine on public healthcare, using gene editing for precision medicine, intellectual property rights and genetic innovation, biosafety issues in regulating genome editing, legal implications of CRISPR technology, and more.

This volume helps to enable medical researchers, geneticists, and professionals in the healthcare industry in understanding the impact of and utilizing modern tools and techniques used for genetic manipulation and the benefits of genome therapy in treatment of various diseases and disorders.
