Reviews
“Both volume of books are very suitable for a broad audience and address the issue head on. The volumes nicely accomplish their goals. The editors have crafted a highly accessible publication that invites readers to digest it in a single sitting, and those who take that opportunity will be pleasantly surprised. The volumes seamlessly interweave thoughts on the history of changes in weather pattern, the dynamics of climate, and its effect on horticulture. Volume 2 ventures into some of the new emerging approaches like use of nana-particles bio chart technologies, home therapy, to name a few. Is change in climate dynamics altering the horticultural scenario? Both volumes of the books agree to the fact. There is a need to protect these valuable crops for sustainability against the climate change scenario. Both books contribute well and raise the attention toward the serious issue regarding changes in the climate dynamics affecting horticultural scenario, supporting with strong and justifiable facts.”
— Prof. (Dr.) R. S. Dhua, Former Head, Department of Post Harvest Technology of Horticultural Crops, Faculty of Horticulture, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal, India

This valuable two-volume set covers a plethora of topics on the contemporary and critical subject of climate change and its effect on horticulture.

Climate change and increased climate variability in terms of rise in temperature, shifting rainfall patterns, and incidences of extreme weather events such as severe drought, devastating floods, etc., pose a real threat to the production of agricultural and horticultural crops, and it is expected that this threat will only increase. Climate change affects many aspects of horticulture: rainfall, pests and invasive species, soil fertility, etc.
This two-volume set will help to give readers an understanding of the issues and makes suggestions for ways to mitigate adverse climate change effects on crops.

The focus of Volume 1: Principles and Applications is to identify impacts and suggest appropriate and effective adaptation and mitigation strategies. Volume 2: Impact, Adaptation, and Mitigation continues in that important vein by focusing on the impact of climate change on horticultural crops and offers ways to adapt practices to mitigate the adverse effects. Together, the two volumes offer a diverse selection on chapters that address issues of importance to those in the horticulture industry, researchers, faculty, and others.

The books:

  • provide a recent understanding about the climate change effects on horticulture
  • cover unique information regarding important fruit crops, including flowers, spices, and plantation crops
  • are an excellent source for researchers to formulate their adaptation and mitigation strategies
  • present the effect of climate change on different horticultural crops
  • cover different mitigation strategies for climate change effect
  • cover abiotic and biotic stresses in relation to climate change
  • present environmentally safe and recent technologies approaches such as nanotechnology and biodynamic
  • include case studies
The books will be an excellent resource for researchers; instructors; students in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science and other allied subjects; and policymakers.
