This new book, Chitosan: A Promising Biopolymer with Widespread Applications, Volume 1, will demonstrate an immense range of revolutionary applications of chitosan as a natural biopolymer in pharmaceutical (drug delivery), biomedical (skin, bone, tissue engineering, artificial kidneys, nerves, livers, wound healing, diagnostics), biotechnological (protein, peptide, vaccine, gene delivery), agricultural, food and cosmetic industries. Chitosan, the second (first-cellulose) most abundant natural polysaccharide on the Earth, is a promising biopolymer owing to its biocompatibility, bidegradability, bioadhesivity, and bioactivity nature that has been reflected in widespread applications. This book extensively will explore the background history and the molecular and structural characteristics with modifications for improved biopolymeric activity in various fields.

In this book, an excellent team of international experts with their valuable chapters, will describe the characteristics and features of chitosan as natural polysaccharide-based biopolymer; its derivatives with improved biodegradability and biocompatibility; design, development and characterization of chitosan-based systems like nanocarriers, hydrogels, microparticles, composites, scaffolds, films, diagnostic aids etc., used in the pharmaceutical, biomedical, agricultural and food industries.

Exploring the potential application of chitosan biopolymer in various fields, this book will provide endless information on current and future developments on chitosan-based systems to research and innovations. This volume will be a valuable resource for researchers and academicians in pharmaceutical and medical sciences, biomedical specialists, clinical practitioners, drug delivery scientists, nanotechnologists, nanobiotechnologists, agriculture and nutrition experts.
