Carbon capture and storage (CCS) refers to a set of technologies and methods for the mitigation, remediation, and storage of industrial CO2 emissions, the most prevalent of the greenhouse gases (GHG). Emission of CO2 as one of the GHG (greenhouse gases) is a growing global risk. The book addresses the technologies currently being applied and developed, and those most in need of further research. As a whole, the book discusses methods of carbon capture in industrial settings, while also looking at such topics as biological and geological approaches to carbon sequestration, introducing ionic liquids as a method of carbon capture, and new approaches to capturing CO2 from ambient air.

The book:
• discusses methods of carbon capture in industrial settings
• presents biological and geological approaches to carbon sequestration
• introduces ionic liquids as a method of carbon capture
• introduces new approaches to capturing CO2 from ambient air

About the Authors / Editors:
Editor: Amitava Bandyopadhyay, PhD
Faculty Member, Department of Chemical Engineering, University Colleges of Science & Technology, University of Calcutta, India

Dr. Amitava Bandyopadhyay is currently the Visiting Associate Professor at the School of Environment, Resources and Development at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand. Before joining as a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Calcutta, he served for more than 10 years in the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB), the State Environmental Regulatory Agency, dealing with the implementation of environmental rules and regulations. He was a Faculty Member of the World Bank concerning the development of emission standards for Indian petrochemical industries. He has worked in several organizations before joining in the State Environmental Regulatory Agency. Besides his active background in teaching, he focuses his research on waste minimization, advanced separation processes, CO2 capture, and emission control.

He has published more than 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals and authored two books. He is one of the topical editors of water and environmental engineering in CLEAN—Soil, Air, Water (Wiley-Blackwell), has acted as one of the guest editors for Separation and Purification Technology (Elsevier) on CO2 Capture Technology, and also serves on the editorial boards and advisory boards of several international journals including Environmental Quality Management (Wiley-Blackwell). He has reviewed projects funded at both international and national levels and is a member of various institutions and governmental departments in India. Dr. Bandyopadhyay has received several laurels for his excellent research works, importantly the Outstanding Paper Award 2012 from Clean Technologies & Environmental Policy for contributing an article —Chapter 1 in this book.
