Bioplastics are a promising and eco-friendly alternative to traditional petroleum-based plastics. These innovative materials are derived from renewable resources, such as plant starch, corn, or sugarcane, making them biodegradable and reducing the environmental impact associated with conventional plastics. This new book presents an informative overview of bioplastics and highlights new state-of-the-art sustainable bioplastic technology.

sustainable bioplastic technology.
The volume provides an introduction to bioplastics: what they are and why they are beneficial, and goes on to discuss the different kinds of bioplastics as well as their diverse uses. It covers the use of bioplastics in creating sustainable food packaging, the use of bioplastics in medical applications, such as in body implants like bones, scaffolds, and breast implants, as well as the use of bioplastics in other areas, such as in electronics, architecture and construction industry, automobile industry, consumer goods, cosmetics, etc.

The design and methods of production of bioplastics are discussed, including novel technologies for polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) introduction and extraction, polylactic acid (PLA)-based bioplastics, as well as nano-bioplastics.

The environmental industrial aspects of bioplastics, such as turning biowastes into bioplastics, as well as the commercial aspects of bioplastics are discussed, evaluating the commercial and industrial value and demand for bioplastics.

This volume is a rich source of information on bioplastic technology and applications for industry professionals as well as for scientists and researchers in the areas of chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, bioprocessing technology, food packaging specialists, policymakers, and others.
