This new volume, Advanced Cybercrime Investigation: Insights and Techniques Through a Digital Forensic Lens, has been built on over two decades of working experience on a battlefield that is continuously changing. It is a cutting-edge guide to modern digital forensics, designed to equip instructors and students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complex world of cybercrime investigation. The book highlights the ultimate tools of the investigator: not a single tool or process; it is an evidence-based systematic process that is enhanced by an out-of-the-box reasoning.

The volume offers a stable conceptual framework of digital investigations—one that can be carried through the changes in technologies. The case studies described in this volume are based on real cases (with the proper anonymity of the confidential information), demonstrating the reasons why certain measures were utilized, why certain methods were chosen, and why some improvisations were made to address unexpected situations.

Chapters cover the fundamentals of digital forensics, hidden secret information and malware in photos and images, methodologies for database forensics, methods of cracking passwords, investigating digital communications in email, cybersecurity technology on heavy equipment, recovering deleted and hidden data in forensic analysis, data recovery, and more.

From understanding operating system artifacts to mastering password-cracking techniques and conducting thorough evidence collection, each chapter provides practical insights and real-world applications. With a focus on emerging technologies and methodologies, this book empowers readers to effectively investigate cybercrimes, secure digital environments, and up to date in the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape.
